In March 2020, the SAVOIR Advisory Group endorsed a new working group for addressing the interface between the Power sub-system and the Avionics, called POWER working group.

The Working Group objectives are:

  • to provide modelling rules and guidelines to develop AOCS & GNC models using Matlab/Simulink in order to ensure the generated code being functionally correct, compliant with the existing standards as well as readable, reusable and maintainable.
  • to provide DVV rules and guidelines to ensure the DVV process for the AOCS automatic generated code fitting the existing development, verification and validation process (i.e. being compliant to the applicable standard) considering it as part of the FSW product
  • Starting from the successful publication of two standards and guideline documents relevant to Power Distribution by Latching Current Limiters and Actuator electronics, it makes sense to enlarge the scope of the initiative relevant to standardisation of power interfaces, to include additional subjects in cooperation with SAVOIR.

    The intention is to explore the possibility to get to a consensus on critical power subsystem interfaces among Agencies, Large System Integrators and equipment manufacturers, in view of an effective standardisation of the interfaces themselves in the optics of enhancing the opportunities of a more recurrent satellite platform solutions and the development of recurrent equipment products in Europe.

    At present, the identified promising interfaces for a first exchange of ideas among the identified key players are the following ones:

    • 1. PCDU interoperability/ TMTC interfaces, protocols, etc
    • 2. "Disconnect Non Essential Loads" (DNEL) strategy and implementation
    • 3. Secondary power interfaces
    • 4. Battery to power conditioning unit (PCU) power and sensing interfaces with associated battery management functionalities )

    The final GOAL is to go towards a generic functional power subsystem specification (as per OBC and RTU in SAVOIR)
